Frequently Asked EMS Questions

1. Is it necessary for the fan switch to be 'on' to activate the fans, or will it activate automatically much like the FP package once the equipment is on?
The fan switch does not have to be in the 'ON' position. The EMSM will automatically activate the fans when an elevated temperature is sensed.

2. When using the EMS package, will the cooks be able to turn the fans off when they are done cooking or will the package override and shut off when the temperature is low enough?
The package will override and shut off the system when the temperature is low enough.

3. Does the modulation of the motor decrease motor life?
No. Inverter duty motors must be used to prevent this.

4. How many hoods and collars can one EMS run?
In an EMSM system, there is one sensor per exhaust fan VFD.

5. Does our ETL listing address the sensor location in the collar for both field cut and factory collars?
No, this is not an ETL issue.

6. If there are multiple hoods exhausted by one fan and factory mounted exhaust risers are ordered, where will the one duct stat be mounted?
In an EMSM system, the duct sensor will ship loose for field mounting in the common exhaust duct.

7. When multiple hoods are exhausted by one fan, are multiple duct stats used in each exhaust riser? If only one duct stat is used, where should it be mounted?
For the EMSM system, there is one temperature sensor per exhaust fan VFD. The stat must be mounted in the common duct to the exhaust fan.

8. What must be done when an EMS system needs to control more than four (4) fans?
Two (2) EMS systems can be ordered.

9. What is the highest HP VFD that is offered?
  Five (5) HP

10. If you have two (2) separate exhaust fans with separate ducts but one (1) MUA fan, do we get two (2) stats? How does the EMS modulate the exhaust and MUA?
There is one stat shipped for every exhaust fan VFD in an EMSM system. The exhaust fans will modulate independently and the supply fan will modulate based on the average speed of the two exhaust fans.

11. If a temperature sensor is shipped loose for field installation, does it come with the necessary quikseals to do a complete install?
Yes, the temperature sensor is shipped with a UL Listed quick seal for exhaust duct penetrations.

12. Do we have a EMS system for two (2) supply fans along with the exhaust fans?
No, two (2) EMS systems should be used when there are two (2) supply fans.

13. Is there a safety feature in the temp controller that prevents someone from adjusting the temperature set point too high?
To allow flexibility of adjustment in the field, there is nothing preventing this. If the temperature control is set this high, more than likely, the fans will not automatically turn on and the system will not modulate correctly.

14. Do we have to plan for the low mode exhaust to still be above the exhaust volumes in our listing?
Low mode exhaust should be designed to our ETL listed minimum values. It is not recommended to lower the exhaust cfm below this point.

15. Can the control interface be mounted on the face of the hood when a wall mounted electrical box is ordered?
No, the control interface can only be mounted on the hood when the electrical box is in the hood.

16. If the exhaust fan belt breaks will the MUA turn off? Also if the MUA fan belt breaks will it shut off the exhaust fan?
No, neither fan will turn off if the belt breaks.

17. Can the control plate be mounted on the UDS riser when the prewire is in the fire cabinet?
  Yes. This can be done.

18. Am I able to order an EMS and the Hot Water Wash/Cold Water Mist Option?
If the job has an EMS, then you can only order a W1 (Hot Water Wash) package.
